Seniors: 5 Medical Bills You Don't Have to Pay After 65 | A Nurse Explains

What this video covers

Many people over 65 pay medical bills they may not have to pay. In this video, a nurse explains five real programs that most seniors never hear about. These are not tricks or loopholes. They are programs written into law, and this video is for anyone over 65 and for the family members who help with the paperwork.

First, your yearly wellness visit and screenings can cost $0, and there is one question to ask that helps you avoid a surprise bill. Second, several vaccines are available at no cost, including flu, pneumonia, COVID, shingles, RSV and tetanus. Third, Extra Help can lower your prescription drug costs, and you can apply at ssa.gov. Fourth, Medicare Savings Programs can pay your Part B premium. Fifth, hospital financial assistance, often called charity care, may help even after you have already been billed. Nurse Ade’s biggest message is simple: never rule yourself out before you apply. Coverage rules can change from year to year, so always confirm the details with Medicare, Social Security or the hospital before you make a decision.
